Mechanical issues have caused chaos to people travelling by train on the Galway-Dublin line this morning.

A signal fault on the train line between Galway and Athenry has already resulted in one rail service being seriously delayed this morning, and another cancelled altogether.

The 5:35am service from Galway to Heuston was delayed by almost an hour this morning due to the signal problem.

The next train from Galway to Dublin, at 6:35am, was cancelled by Irish Rail altogether as the issue continued.

Irish rail has yet to say if any more trains between Galway and Dublin will be delayed or cancelled this morning.

Because the fault is between Galway and Athenry, it has also affected people travelling by rail from the city to Ballinasloe, Woodlawn, Athlone, Kildare, and more, as well as those going straight to Galway.
