Searches are continuing today for a missing person who was reported entering the water of the Corrib River before Christmas.

A man was reported entering the Corrib at the Wolfe Tone Bridge on the afternoon of December 20th a Garda spokesperson said.

A search operation involving the Gardaí, Irish Coast Guard, RNLI and Civil Defence is ongoing.

Voluntary organisations such as the Oranmore Maree Coastal Search Unit, Tipperary Search and Rescue, and Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery are also assisting in the search for the missing man.

The Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery carried out multiple dives along the Corrib on Sunday, and Tipperary SAR assisted in searches.

Oranmore Maree Coastal Search Unit is also continuing its efforts today, with fresh search efforts starting from the Galway Bay Sailing Club in Renville this morning.
