The local post office in Salthill is going to be relocated to a nearby Centra store according to plans submitted to the city council.
O’Connors Centra at 220 Upper Salthill road are seeking planning permission for renovations to the existing ground floor in order to accommodate a retail area and post office.
Permission is also being sought for an expansion of the first floor of the building.
“This planning application is to facilitate the relocation of the An Post office from its current location at No. 137 Upper Salthill to the Centra shop”.
“An Post are closing individual standalone post offices around the country in favour of the model of relocating post offices within existing shops”.
The first floor expansion is for storage space and the relocation of offices and the canteen related to this new addition the application states.
It also says that O’Connors Centra is a “family run business which provides a valuable amenity and employment to the village of Salthill”.
Galway City Council is due to make a decision on this planning application by October 2.
