Road reopens after fatal crash near Ballinasloe

The Ballinasloe to Shannonbridge road has reopened this evening after being closed today due to a fatal crash.

A man in his 30s lost his life in a two vehicle collision outside Shannonbridge which took place on Tuesday evening shortly before 7pm.

The affected section of the R357 was closed today, with diversions in place, in order to allow a forensic examination of the scene to take place.

However Gardaí have confirmed that the road has since reopened to traffic.

The man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and his body was removed to University Hospital Galway.

A post-mortem examination will now take place Gardaí said.

The other person involved in the collision, a man in his 40s, was taken to Portiuncula Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and also to any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from along the route at around the time of the collision to come forward.
