Plans for a major extension of Presentation College Headford have taken a step forward with inspections by department officials to take place in the new year.

Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon said that the Board of Management at Presentation College are anxious to secure funding from the Department of Education for a new extension.

The Board have submitted architectural plans to the department, Ciaran Cannon said, and the project is expected to advance quickly in the new year.

“Minister Joe McHugh has comfimed to me that school building officials from his Department will visit Presentation College in early January,” The Fine Gael TD said.

He added that this is “welcome milestone” for the work at Presentation College Headford, adding that once department officials see for themselves the serious challenges facing the secondary school with its current building, “they will quickly move the building project to the next phase”.

In the meantime Deputy Cannon said that he and local county councillor Andrew Reddington will continue to liaise with the department and board of management to “bring the project to fruition as quickly as possible”.
