Portiuncula University Hospital recently celebrated its staff’s contribution to better healthcare at its second annual Research Day.
This day was organised to showcase and the research and and audit work undertaken by staff at Portiuncula Hospital over the past year.
Seven oral presentations were given along with 23 posters detailing healthcare findings from staff in every discipline including the Emergency Department, Physiotherapy, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Nursing, Radiology, Medicine, and Surgery.
James Keane, General Manager at Portiuncula said, “The research and audit topics presented on the day demonstrate the commitment of staff to improve patient-centred care, optimise service delivery and ensure best practice healthcare.”
Dr Amir Mohammed and Dr Jahid Hason from the anaesthetics department won Best Poster Presentation for ‘Red Hat Study’.
The Best Oral Presentation was given by Dr. Hillary McLoughlin, Consultant Respiratory Physician for ‘Chest Pain Query Cause: Group Thinking at Portiuncula’.
They received their awards at the Research Day held at Portiuncula Hospital last week.
Much of the research shown at this research day has already gone wide in the healthcare community at national and international conferences.
“Following last year’s research day at the hospital, we decided to make it an annual event for staff to share their research,” James Keane said.
“Also, our Academic Committee are focused on providing opportunities for our Non Consultant Hospital Doctors to carry out research and present the research at a forum of peers.”
