Planning permission is being sought from Galway City Council to replace a popular Bohermore Bar with a 163 bed hostel.

Plans have been submitted to the council to knock down Tonery’s Bar in Bohermore, along with the adjoining garage.

In it’s place, Peadar Tonery intends to make use of the large site, significantly larger than the pub, to build a hostel and retail development.

The hostel would consist of three floors above ground, and two floors below ground level, with a 163 rooms.

The total floor space of the hostel would be 5,217.36m². The plans also include a retail unit with a floor space of 308.88m².

The project would also involve public realm and landscaping works including pedestrian linkages and bicycle parking spaces.

Galway City Council is due to decide whether to grant planning permission for this development May 20 of this year.
