Planning permission is being sought to open a new wine bar in Salthill by converting a vacant premises on Upper Salthill Road.
The application by Nelmar Entertainment Ltd is for the conversion of Salthill Liquor Store, an off-licence which has been shut for approximately two years.
The plans are from the owners of O’Connor’s Famous Pub, and the application states that there will be a connection between the two for staff use.
“There is a call for a high end wine bar in the Salthill area,” a cover letter for the plans states, adding that there is a need for more vibrancy in the area.
“It is proposed to have a high end internal finish and to provide a very attractive front elevation. The signage will be in keeping with the shopfront and signage guidelines.”
A decision on this planning application is due from Galway City Council by July 5 of this year.
