Plans have been submitted to the city council for an expansion of the Gateway Retail Park in Knocknacarra to include three new restaurants or cafés.

The new restaurants would replace a drive-thru restaurant which had previously been granted planning permission, but has yet to be built.

Targeted Investment Opportunities ICAV is seeking permission for a stand alone building, part two storey and part one storey, which could contain three units to be used as cafés or restaurants.

The developer said in the application to alter the site permission that these units would provide a “broader range and mix of uses” within the centre which are more appropriate to the area.

The total floor space in the development is 547sqm among unit no. 8 – no. 10 art Gateway Retail Park.

Unit 8 will be 185sqm, unit 9 will be 117sqm, and no. 10 will be 245sqm. The three are intended to replace a planned drive-thru with a total floor space of 455sqm.

Planning permission for the two storey fast food restaurant and drive-thru had originally been granted in August 2011.

The site for the new restaurants is at the southern end of Gateway Retail Park, next to the main entrance.

According to the developer “as the scale of the change of building is very minor in the overall development, the parking strategy as set out in 17/158 will not be affected.”

Submissions related to this application can be made to the city council until July 15, and a final decision is due by August 5.
