Galway Daily news Plans for new outdoor swimming pool on the Shannon

Major improvements are in the works for outdoor recreation facilities that will let people enjoy the water in a unique way in east Galway

Shannon Bank Trustees are seeking planning permission from Galway County Council to remove the old concrete outdoor pool near Banagher, and replace it with a more modern one.

The outdoor pool is across the river from Bannagher, just on the Galway side of the county line with Offaly.

The project would involve removing the pool, including the walkways, handrails and single access gangway.

The existing pilings are to be retained, and the new pool will be installed on them, along with a raised walkway around it, fixed seating within the pool, and a floating canoe pontoon attached to it.

Other works will involve upgrading the existing tiered seating in front of the pool, including installing three new access stairs with handrails, and a disabled access ramp

Planning approval was granted by Galway County Council with four conditions attached.
