The two kilometre radius used for exercising extends only from people’s front door or gate, and no further, a Galway TD has said.

People should not, under any circumstances, sit into their car and drive to a favourite amenity or place and then commence their 2km distance exercise there, Minister Ciaran Cannon said.

The Fine Gael TD said that while some people may find the restrictions placed on their movement to be trying on their patience, we have to remember that it is being done for the sake of the welfare of those more vulnerable in our communities.

“This very much includes members of our own families and our neighbours and so I urge people in the county to ensure that the 2km radius used for exercising extends only from their front door or gate and no further,” he said.

“The very last thing anyone wants to do in a democracy is to set a limit on where people can go, without having the very best of reasons for doing so.

“The vast majority of people are taking this advice to heart and I wish to acknowledge the sacrifice they are making for the good of others”.
