A pedestrian in his 60s was killed in a traffic collision involving a car in Co. Mayo on Thursday evening.

GardaĆ­ and emergency services responded to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Main Street, Ballinrobe at approximately 6:30pm on Thursday.

The pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.

His body has been removed to Mayo General Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The scene is preserved for technical examination. The road is currently closed with local diversions in place.

A man in his 30ā€™s was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released without charge.

GardaĆ­ are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6pm and 7pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating GardaĆ­.
