There are more than 1,700 properties currently without electricity in Galway today, as Storm Franklin, the third of the week, brings damaging winds.

The ESB is reporting two faults in the Athenry area, which are currently causing electricity outages to 798 homes and businesses.

Further south, there are also two outages around Gort, which have left a total of 951 properties without electricity.

All of these faults are currently expected to be repaired by 3pm this afternoon at the latest according to the ESB Powercheck.

Galway is currently under a status yellow wind warning for Storm Franklin, with an orange weather warning to come into effect from 3pm this afternoon.

Met Eireann has warned that gale force winds with “severe and damaging gusts” can be expected today and into the early hours of Monday morning.
