A new online resource for the parents and teachers of gifted children across the EU has been launched by Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon.

The resource, called EGIFT, provides appropriate educational opportunities for gifted students at school level and supports this by increasing the skills of educators in the classroom.

Minister Ciaran Cannon said he was delighted to visit DCU to launch EGIFT, as ‘it is vital that our education system caters for the specific educational requirements of all students’ .

“It is important that gifted children be provided with the right academic challenges as the curriculum does not always answer to their needs or add to their capabilities and it is also vital that they feel valued the education system.

“This Erasmus+ funded project seeks to address that and does so by providing appropriate educational opportunities for students at school level, supporting this aim by increasing the skills of educators in the classroom in the field of gifted and talented education.

“This is an EU-wide programme and I would encourage teachers in Galway who wish to know more about how it can help them to cater for the educational needs of gifted children to find out more about it at https://highability.eu/”.
