Dozens of NUI Galway undergraduate journalism students have been given refunds after making formal complaints over the quality of their course.
Among the reasons for the refunds were lack of access to work placements and poor communication from course leaders.
The Irish Times reports that the university’s complaints board found the shortcomings “negatively impacted on the educational experience of students”.
There had also been a “significant lack of leadership” and the shortcomings had been acknowledged by staff in the journalism course.
The refunds have cost NUI Galway more than 100 thousand euro.
