Ninety seven bags of rubbish were collected by county council staff in a shocking example of brazen illegal dumping near Ballyforan.
Galway County Council has said that there are still many examples of “indiscriminate” illegal dumping taking place throughout the county.
In a post of facebook the council highlighted the 97 bags of rubbish which were found dumped Derryfadda Bog near Ballyforan last week.
The rubbish was dumped at multiple locations along the road, with some bags found tossed into trees, illustrating the “scale of the issue” council staff are facing on a daily basis.
“This is unacceptable, irresponsible behaviour and diverts vital staffing resources to clean up,” the council said on facebook.
“We would ask members of the public to report any incidents of dumping in their area to Galway County Council’s Environment section on 091-509510 or by email to environment@galwaycoco.ie or through the Environmental Protection Agencies reporting app SEE IT, SAY IT at www.epa.ie/enforcement/report/seeit/.”
