Nine cafés in Galway City are celebrating this Green Friday by offering their customers discounted €2 coffees all day.
The coffees will be sold in reusable 2GoCups at the nine cafés this Friday, 2 December.
The local businesses participating in Galway City Council’s reusable cup trial are Anton’s Café, Fr Griffin Road; C’est la Vie, Terryland; the Creamery, Salthill; Greens & Co, Henry Street; Mocha Beans, Salthill, Cross Street and Newcastle Road; Roscoes, Eglington Street; and Rouge, Dominic Street.
Speaking about the initiative, Tiarnan McCusker, Environmental Awareness Officer with Galway City Council explained: “We have just had Black Friday which is a welcome boost to the local retailers but inadvertently leads to an increase in packaging waste.
“Green Friday is a novel way for us to do something good for the environment. A €2 coffee in a 2GoCup will save you money and reduce the 22,000 coffee cups disposed of each hour in Ireland.
“Simply ‘borrow’ a fresh reusable cup for €1 from any of the participating cafés, and you can return it at any time to get your money back.”
