Man safe after rescue operation on the Corrib

A man is alive and safe this afternoon after an extensive rescue operation in the city today.

At roughly half three this afternoon a man was seen entering the water near O’Brien’s bridge on the Corrib.

Gardaí, fire and ambulance services began a rescue operation on the bridge and river.

The Galway Lifeboat and Coast Guard Rescue 115 helicopter were also called to the scene to help.

The man left the river not long after and is reportedly unharmed.
