A man is alive and safe this afternoon after an extensive rescue operation in the city today.
At roughly half three this afternoon a man was seen entering the water near O’Brien’s bridge on the Corrib.
GardaÃ, fire and ambulance services began a rescue operation on the bridge and river.
Tasked on first service of 2019 alongside @IrishCoastGuard Rescue115, Galway Fire Service, Ambulance and @AnGardSiochana Later stood down – successful outcome.

The Galway Lifeboat and Coast Guard Rescue 115 helicopter were also called to the scene to help.
The man left the river not long after and is reportedly unharmed.
