Man in his 70s dies after car enters the sea in Kinvara

One man has died in hospital today after an incident where his car went into the water in Kinvara on Thursday evening.

Gardaí are investigating a fatal incident where a car was seen going into the water near the quay in Kinvara at approximately 8pm yesterday evening.

Emergency services responded to the incident after the alarm was raised, including RNLI from the Galway Lifeboat Station.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a man in his 70s, was rescued from the water and taken to University Hospital Galway in critical condition, but later passed away.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, particularly any motorists who may have been in The Quay area Kinvara between 7:45pm – 8:15pm who may have dash cam footage to come forward.
