Gardaí have arrested a man in his 20s as part of their investigation into an incident at Eyre Square last month when a young woman was struck with a firework.

The man was arrested today is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a South Dublin Garda station.

The firework struck the woman who was sitting at a bus stop near the taxi rank at the top of Eyre Square.

The firework was believed to have been launched from close to the Tourist Information Kiosk on Eyre Square which is situated across the street from where the injured party was sitting.

She has suffered serious injury as a result of the incident and was removed from the scene by ambulance.
