National mental health organisation Aware today announced the second annual Big Splash for Aware, urging people all over Ireland to come together for a swim or ‘dip’ on Saturday September 14 in support of mental health.
Participants are invited to take part at their favourite swimming spots and will receive a blue swimming hat featuring the Aware sun icon, symbolizing hope to proudly demonstrate support on the day.
With 53 per cent of adults in Ireland reporting what they believe is an experience of depression over their lifetime and 2 in 5 (42 per cent) citing frequent anxiety, Aware continues to see high demand for its services from the public, directly supporting up to 40,000 people each year.
The Big Splash for Aware will raise vital funds to ensure the organisation can continue to deliver these essential services nationwide for people impacted by depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder, directly or as a loved one.
Stephen Butterly, Head of Fundraising at Aware commented: “We really appreciated the support for the inaugural Big Splash for Aware last year, with almost 1,000 people taking a dip at their local swim spots to support Aware.”
