Update: Traffic lights at the Quincentennial Bridge are now restored.
Update: Power has been restored to the east Galway City.Â
A major power outage in Galway city today has left thousands of homes and businesses without electricity.
The problem was reported this morning and the ESB is currently working on fixing the issue. A total of 7,817 customers in the east of the city are affected by the power outage.
The ESB said that they expect the outage to be resolved by 5pm today.
Galway City Council has asked motorists heading north for the bank holiday weekend to leave the city via the Dublin Road and M6 / M17 motorway to Tuam due to traffic lights outages.
The power outage is affecting traffic lights at Ballybane N6, Tuam Rd N6, Riverside, Liosbaun. ThermoKing on the Monivea Road is also affected.
All road users are advised to exercise caution, and be aware of pedestrians trying to cross.
The ESB said: “We apologise for the loss of supply. We are currently working to repair a fault affecting your premises and will restore power as quickly as possible.”
