A machine workshop at Teagasc’s Mellows campus in Athenry is being converted into a high tech laboratory.

Galway county council has given Teagasc permission to convert an existing space into a laboratory for agricultural research use.

Teagasc is Ireland’s Food and Agriculture Development Authority, conducting research into improvements into agriculture.

They also provide advisory and training services for people and businesses in the agriculture and food industries.

The Mellows Campus on the outskirts of Athenry is the local advisory and training offices for the agency.

The county council  gave permission for the development to go ahead with three conditions attached.
