Supervalu in Loughrea has been given approval to install rooftop solar panels as we head into the summer, and hopefully a few rays of sun.
Blue Silver Merchants sought planning permission for 192.02kW worth of solar panels on top of Loughrea Shopping Centre on the Athenry road for Supervalu’s use.
The supermarket said that installation is for the purposes of “generating on-site green electricity to reduce the applicant’s energy consumption”.
UK based Kingspan Energy was consulted about installing the photovaltic panels.
They estimated that it would take eight weeks to complete the installation once a final order has been placed, subject to ESB approval.
Galway county council granted planning permission with four conditions attached.
