Loughrea based artisan food producer Gran Grans Foods is one of five winning Irish suppliers in the national Grow With Aldi programme.

Nigel and Magaly Murray, co-owners of Gran Grans Foods make a range of Sauces, Dressings, Dips, Chutneys & Preserves right in their home in Kilcheest near Loughrea.

The were recognised this week for their exceptional, homemade Lemon & Ginger marmalade.

The five winners were announced by Aldi at the opening day of the National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore this week.

“It’s been a fantastic experience, the mentoring we’ve had from Aldi throughout has been very helpful. We’re just looking forward to the future with Grow With Aldi,” Nigel said at the Ploughing Championships.

The European Region of Gastronomy Galway team congratulated Nigel and Magaly on their win, saying:

“We’re delighted that a local producer has achieved this accolade, as it is indicative of the quality of what we have to offer here in Galway.”

Grow With Aldi is a supplier development programme the retailer runs in partnership with Bord Bia.

It represents a half a million euro investment in helping small scale food and drink suppliers to get a leg up in the retail market.

Aldi have said they currently source 50% of their products sold here from Irish producers, and last year spent €700 million with Irish businesses.

The other winners announced were Rebel Chilli hot sauce, Velo Coffee Roasters, Lullaby Milk that helps you sleep, and Ballyhoura Apple Farm.
