An increase in the sale of real Christmas trees has resulted in a boost to the local economy, according to a Galway East TD.
The Irish Christmas Tree Growers Association say that sales of real Christmas trees have increased in the past season on levels reported for Christmas 2017.
Minister Ciaran Cannon said: “This reflects a welcome consciousness of environmental issues and is also a boost to local economies, including that of East Galway where there is an outlet in Athenry, ‘Galway Christmas Trees’ and which supplies Norway Spruce, the Noble Fir and Lodgepole Pine.”
Meanwhile, most of these trees have come down over the weekend, and Galway County Council is accepting Christmas trees for recycling during normal working hours at sites across Galway from today.
