A decision taken by Irish Water to rule out Tuam as the regional sludge hub for Connacht has been welcomed by East Galway TD Seán Canney.
Deputy Canney said that he has campaigned ‘long and hard’ to ensure Tuam is not the regional centre for sludge disposal in the West.
He said that both Tuam and Sligo were identified by Irish Water as potential sites for the sludge hub.
“I now understand that Irish Water are no longer considering Tuam following intensive investigation,” said the Independent Galway TD.
“This has been communicated by Galway County Council. Tuam is progressing and is seeing major investment in both public works and private sector investment and this positive attitude will continue into the future.”
