GardaĆ are examining a list of missing people in Galway City after the discovery of a body in the water of Galway Bay on Saturday afternoon.
The body was recovered after a member of the public raised the alarm.
The person who raised the alarm was walking on the causeway to Mutton Island when they spotted the body in the water.
Galway RNLI Lifeboat, An Garda SĆochĆ”na and a crew from Galway Fire Brigade attended the scene and recovered the body from the water.
The deceased person was then taken to University Hospital Galway for a post-mortem examination.
It is understood that the body may have been in the water for some time.
