Upgrade works on the Inis Oírr water network are due to get underway this week, to reduce the amount lost to leaks.
Irish Water and the county council are replacing approximately 1km of old water mains on the island, and replacing them with modern pipes.
The works on the local water network will also include lay new service connections to properties along the route, and connecting the public main to their supply.
Gerry O’Donnell, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead with Irish Water said: “Irish Water is delighted to deliver these vital water mains replacement works on Inis Oírr”.
He added that they will “benefit the local community by driving down leakage while providing a more secure water supply for homes and businesses on the Island.”
The works will be carried out on behalf of Irish Water by Farrans Construction and are expected to be completed in July.
