A consultation is being sought with An Bord Pleanala regarding the construction of 345 Build-to-Let apartments on the east side of the city.
Crown Square Developments Ltd has submitted an application for a Strategic Housing Development Consultation with the higher planning authority for this Mervue project.
The consultation is over plans for 345 apartments, a creche, and associated site works as the residential element of the larger Crown Square development.
An Bord Pleanála is due to make a decision on this consultation by March 4 of 2021.
A SHD is a type of planning application created in 2016, which allows for developments consisting of more than 100 residential units or 200 student accommodation bed spaces to be made directly to An Bord Pleanála.
The first step in the process is this pre-application consultation, where the Board and relevant local authority, Galway City Council, will review whether the documentation submitted consists of a reasonable basis for an SHD application.
This fresh application to An Bord Pleanála represents an expansion of the original housing plans for the Crown Square Site.
In May of 2019, An Bord Pleanála issued a decision on a pre-application consultation regarding plans for 287 apartments on the site.
The planning authority ruled on May 1, 2019 that there was a reasonable basis for a SID application for this, but it does not appear as if a full planning application was lodged afterwards.
