Sliabh Carran in Gort will benefit from €108,000 in funding for flood relief, Sean Canney TD has confirmed.
The Office of Public Works allocated the funding to Galway County Council to carry out flood relief measures in the housing estate and the council will be carrying out the works in the coming months.
The housing estate was affected by serious flooding in 2009 and Sean Canney says this money will provide the basis for solving this long running saga.
The Galway East TD said: “When the flood works are complete the way will be paved for all other works to be carried out in the estate to bring it to a standard for taking in charge.
“I want to acknowledge the work of the local County Councillors, Council officials the Office of Public Works and the residents for all of their efforts with this project.
“I am also delighted that the Office of Public Workshave responded positively to my representation on this matter. I expect Galway County Council to commence the works shortly and this will bring much relief to the residents who have suffered so much flooding in the past.”
