The Irish Kidney Association has highlighted the importance of early screening for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) on World Kidney Day today.
Supported by Diabetes Ireland and the HSE, the Irish Kidney Association’s campaign emphasises that it is possible to prevent or slow down the progression of kidney disease.
This is all possible by having a simple blood and urine tests done through a GP to measure your kidney health.
CKD affects one in ten people, and it is estimated it will become the fifth leading cause of death globally by 2020.
Often described as ‘a silent illness hiding in plain sight’, it usually develops slowly over time and can progress to total kidney failure.
