Galway University Hospitals Stoma Care Unit is holding a free public information meeting next week for anyone who has had or is due to undergo stoma surgery.
The event will take place on Thursday, 9 June in the Clayton Hotel from 5pm to 9pm with talks starting at 6pm to 7pm.
The event is titled ‘A stoma in your life’, focusing on quality of life issues and looking at positive influences on living with a stoma. Family members, friends and carers are also welcome to attend the talk.
Clinical Nurse specialists from Galway University Hospitals and Portiuncula University Hospital will give talks on improving quality of life for Ostomy patients, including advice on abdominal core exercises. Stoma patients will also be on hand to share their individual experiences.
“We are delighted to be back hosting our first informative event since 2019 which aims to support people with stomas and their families,” said Clinical Nurse Specialist Mary Quigley.
“During the evening, there will be informative talks, exhibit stands for new ostomy products like, swimwear, underwear and support garments.
“There will be an opportunity for those attending to also speak to the clinical nurse specialists on a one-to-one basis. Refreshments will be served and there will be lots of spot prizes. It is an informal evening and people can bring a friend. Everyone is welcome.”
