The redevelopment of Old Grove Hospital site in Tuam is expected to progress early next year with the appointment of a contractor.
Galway East TD Seán Canney said that he has been informed by the HSE Director for Estates that tenders for the project are expected to be issued in October, with a contractor to be appointed in January 2021.
The HSE intends to build a new Mental Health & Early Intervention day hospital at the Old Grove site.
The project has a total budget of €13 million, of which €355,000 has already been spent.
“This project has been in the plans for a number of years. I am confident that it is in the final stage and will be constructed in 2021,” Seán Canney said
“The Grove site is closed for 20 years and finally we will see this iconic building back in use as a health facility for Tuam and North Galway”.
