A total of 38 people with COVID-19 are receiving care in Galway hospitals today, according to the latest HSE figures.
The data, taken at 8pm yesterday evening, shows that there are 31 people with COVID at University Hospital Galway and seven at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
Of the confirmed COVID cases across the two hospitals, a quarter are in intensive care units. Seven people with the disease are being treated in the ICU at UHG, while at Portiuncula there are two confirmed cases in ICU.
The hospital figures for Galway have remained relatively steady over the past week despite a reduction in the overall number of COVID patients in hospitals across the state.
There are now 899 cases in hospital as of 8am this morning, and 160 in ICU as of 7.30pm yesterday evening.
There are 40 beds available at UHG and 15 at Portiuncula.
Health officials reported 788 new cases of Covid-19 across the state yesterday, and 17 further Covid-related deaths.
Of the new cases, 61 are in Galway, where the 14-day incidence rate is now 316.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
315 new cases are in Dublin, 59 in Meath, 42 in Louth and 33 in Kildare, the Department of Health confirmed.
