The Department of Education has confirmed to a Galway TD that no funding is available for a Sports Hall at Seamount College in Kinvara.
Independent Galway East TD Seán Canney said that this is disappointing news for the school, students, parents and staff as every secondary school needs to have appropriate facilities to support PE provision.
He said that the wellbeing of students and PE are part of the curriculum, and it is ‘baffling’ that funding is not in place to have the facilities available.
Canney has asked the Minister to meet with a delegation from the school, but he said that this request has not been accepted yet.
“Education is fundamental in the life of our youth; Physical Education is an integral part of the school and the appropriate facilities need to be supported by Government,” said Deputy Canney.
