Galway Daily news Galway allocated €9 million for LEADER programme 2023-2027

More than 60 sports clubs and community groups in Galway have been awarded €2.3 million in funding under the Sports Capital Programme.

“This substantial allocation for Galway will fund improvement and enhancement works at dozens of sports clubs and organisations across the city,” said Galway TD and Minister Seán Kyne.

“With enhancements to facilities and, in many cases, the construction of new facilities, the investment will benefit tens of thousands of people in communities across Galway.”

The Sports Capital Programme is operated by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and partially funded by National Lottery proceeds.

It provides grants to assist in the development or refurbishment of sports facilities and the provision of sports equipment

Along with funding going directly to sports clubs this programme is also delivering funding to Galway City Council to carry out upgrades on community facilities used by the public as well as by clubs.

“The investment will also boost the local economy through works carried out by local construction companies in addition to purchases from local businesses,” Deputy Kyne added.
