Galway Daily news Galway City Council closing public amenities again

Galway City Council is closing multiple council run amenities and public areas over the coming days following a request from the Gardaí.

It was announced on Friday that Blackrock Diving Tower, all parking along the Salthill Promenade, and vehicle access to Silverstrand beach will be closing.

The council has also decided to close all Community Centres, Tennis Courts, All-Weather Pitches and the Boxing Club.

St. Nicholas’ Market remains open for the time being, but is being restricted to food vendors only.

All Parks, Woodlands and Beaches remain open.

The council’s decision to further tighten restrictions on public areas comes as full Level 5 restrictions have been reimposed by the government.

Galway is also experiencing record numbers of COVID-19 cases.

There were 180 cases reported in Galway yesterday, by far the highest daily figure seen in the pandemic.
