Seán Canney TD has called on the Minister for Education Norma Foley to immediately clarify what is happening with the school transport fiasco.
The Galway East TD said that since the announcement of free transport, the Minister’s Department is unable to cope with the demand.
Deputy Canney said that there has been ‘no forward planning’ and parents are still awaiting a response to their application for tickets.
“Students entitled to tickets are being told there is no room on the bus and students who historically purchased concessionary tickets are being told that they will not get tickets this year.”
He said that it is a ‘mess’ created by the Department and that the Minister needs to intervene as a matter of urgency.
“Families and schools in rural areas are worst affected.”
