A fundraiser set up for a local man who was diagnosed with bladder cancer earlier this year is closing in on €50,000.

In February, Kevin Quinn was diagnosed with Stage 3 urachal adenocarcinoma – a rare and aggressive form of bladder cancer.

The fundraiser has raised over €43,000 to date and is closing in on its first target of €50,000 after receiving more than 320 donations.

There have only been 300 medically documented cases of urachal adenocarcinoma, making up less than 1% of all bladder cancers.

It’s unclear how long Kevin’s treatments will be needed as the prognosis drastically changes for patients that present with advanced stages of this disease.

The campaign is to help ease the financial burdens and donations will help to cover medical costs and other necessities for Kevin and his wife Joy.

As well as the GoFundMe campaign, his local Kevin’s local hurling club in Ballinderreen is hosting a fundraiser walk until 7pm today (Saturday).
