Galway’s fire service was kept busy overnight battling multiple gorse and bog fires throughout the county

A crew at Mountbellew Fire Station were called twice in the early hours of today to bog fires in the surrounding areas.

Fire crews from Portumna battled a gorse fire for several hours yesterday before it was contained around midnight.

Another gorse fire was also reported in the Menlough area, and Mountbellew fire brigade have been called out again this morning.

The Department of Agriculture issued an Orange Warning this week cautioning of a strong risk of fires in the west of Ireland due to dry weather, high temperatures, and high pressure weather conditions.

That warning will remain in place until tomorrow.
