More than 2,400 homes and businesses in Ballinasloe and surrounding villages are now able to connect to high-speed fibre broadband.

The new fibre network has been set up by National Broadband Ireland, the company rolling out the national broadband plan on behalf of the government.

Homes, businesses and farms in places such as Ahascragh, Kilconnell, Kellysgrove and Kiltormer can also avail of fibre broadband.

Peter Hendrick, Chief Executive of NBI, said that they’ve already seen a large uptake on their fibre connections in Ballinasloe already.

“The best way for people who live or run a business in the area to check their eligibility is to visit the National Broadband Ireland website.”

“A connection to our network will enable users to experience the life-changing benefits that high-speed broadband provides.”

Under the National Broadband Plan, some 40,000 properties in Galway are included in the targeted areas, with a total investment of €153 million.

As a wholesale network operator, National Broadband Ireland does not sell fibre broadband directly to end users.

Rather it enables services from a range of broadband providers or Retail Service Providers (RSPs).
