Galway County Council has given the go ahead for an expansion of the existing Mountbellew Nursing Home which will create 27 new bedrooms.

Planning permission has been granted for the construction of a new ground floor extension to the nursing home, which will have a two storey section.

This will provide 27 new bedrooms, associated staff areas, toilets, and ancillary support rooms, with a total floor space of 1,050sqm.

The development will also involve alterations to the existing nursing home building at Treanrevagh, Mountbellew.

This will involve “incorporating first floor apartment into existing first floor retirement home and refurbishment to same, along with alterations to existing facades”.

The proposed car parking arrangement for the expanded development includes 19 parking spaces.

In February, the county council made a request for further information, asking the developer to submit a pre-application confirmation from Irish Water that the utility provider is satisfied the existing sewer network is sufficient for this new development.

The council also asked for the developer to show that safe access and egress of vehicles could be provided from the site, in particular for rigid vehicles such as fire trucks.

These were submitted to the council in a response in mid August of this year.

Galway County Council granted planning permission with a total of 11 conditions attached.
