Residents associations, community groups, business groups and youth groups are being encouraged to clean up litter at beaches in their local areas this weekend to help keep Galway City tidy.
Galway City Council has organised the clean up to coincide with World Cleanup Day 2021 and Clean Coasts’ Big Beach Clean.
Skips will be located at Ballyloughane Beach, Claddagh Hall and Hunters Park (Lough Rusheen Park, Barna Road) from 10am to 4pm on the day.
Tiarnan McCusker, Environmental Awareness Officer with Galway City Council, said that the Big Beach Clean 2021 follows a very successful ‘Love Your Beach Week’ initiative in July.
“Most people in Galway City live within about 5km of a beach that they cherish,” he said.
“So why not get your gloves on and take this great opportunity alongside other members of the community to help to clean it up and give something back?”
Galway City Council staff will be on duty at each skip location to help out and to offer advice on what can go into each bin.
