Galway City Council has urged people in Galway to check whether they are registered to vote.

The general election will be held on 8 February, which means that anyone who registered to vote in the last year is not automatically registered to vote.

These people need to apply for supplementary Register.

The Register of Electors is available online at www.checktheregister.ie and at Post Offices, Garda Stations and Libraries.

It can also be checked at Galway City Council Offices, City Hall, College Road, Galway.

The closing date to apply for the supplementary Register of Electors is next Wednesday – 22 January 2020.

The closing date to apply for inclusion on the Supplement to the Register of Electors as a Postal/Special Voter is today, Thursday 16 January 2020.

To help people who want to apply, Galway City Council is holding a special day of registration for this Supplement for Electors in the City area on Wednesday 22 January 2020.

Galway City Council staff, together with a member of An Garda Síochána, will be available in the offices of Galway City Council, City Hall, College Road, Galway, to allow people who live within the boundaries of Galway City to apply for inclusion in the Supplement.

For persons living in Galway City, email Register of Electors staff with any queries to register@galwaycity.ie, or phone 091-536400.
