Bus Éireann has reminded parents and guardians to apply online for the school transport scheme for the next academic year by Friday, 30 April.
Children are eligible for school transport if they live more than 3.2 kilometres from and are attending their nearest Primary school.
They are also eligible if they reside more than 4.8 kilometres from and are attending their nearest secondary school.
Only parents and guardians of pupils starting Primary school or moving to Post Primary, or those who are changing home address or school, need to apply.
The application for primary and post primary pupils can be found online at www.buseireann.ie/schooltransport.
The School Transport scheme supports transport to and from school for children who reside remote from their nearest school.
Bus Éireann operates the school transport scheme on behalf of the Department of Education and transports over 114,000 children to and from school on a daily basis.
Galway East TD Seán Canney pointed out that payment for school transport tickets will open on 16 June 2021 and the final deadline for payment is the last Friday in July – subject to final confirmation by the Department of Education.
Further communication will be sent to registered applicant families in relation to this deadline for payments.
School Transport services for the new school year will commence from 26 August 2021.
