The extension of Craughwell National School has taken a step forward with construction expected to begin this summer.
Galway East TD Seán Canney received confirmation that the tender evaluation for the extension is now complete and the report has been submitted to the Department of Education for approval.
The Independent TD said that the project has been on the agenda for too many years and that he expects the building of the extension to start in the summer, with a programme of nine months.
“The much-needed school extension includes a two-story extension of 1,628 Square metres to the existing school to replace the prefab classrooms,” explained Deputy Canney.
“The extension includes eight new classrooms, a general-purpose sports hall, a multipurpose room, administration offices, principal’s office, access lift, toilets, carpark and a drop off and pick up area.”
Deputy Canney said the project is long awaited by the community in Craughwell, and he urged the Department of Education to expedite the approval process and ‘ensure that the project is delivered with out any further delay’.
