Nearly a third of University of Galway graduates got first class honours this year, as the state watchdog plans to investigate grade inflation.
It is reported in the Irish Times that 30% of students who graduated from University of Galway did so with first class honours this year.
Nationwide that figures stands at more than a quarter, up from 21% the previous year, and 16% in 2015.
Quality and Qualifications Ireland is planning to investigate the trend of grade inflation, and its causes.
QQI is the state watchdog with the responsibility for providing external quality assurance for higher education and training in Ireland.
The watchdog is planning to hold a conference with higher education institutes on the topic of grade inflation next year.
