LEADER funding of almost €170,000 has been announced for the Mullagh Community Development project.
The project envisages a 1km walkway which will encompass the perimeter of the adjacent GAA pitches, providing a safe place for people to walk away from public roads.
It is also intended to upgrade the existing community centre, which opened in 1981.
Minister for the Diaspora and International Development Ciaran Cannon said that the project will ensure that the local community has the most up-to-date sporting facilities.
He said: “I am delighted to see that both of Mullagh Community Development`s applications for LEADER funding have been successful and that the group have been awarded €150,000 towards the redevelopment of the Community Centre and €19,683 towards the cost of their proposed walkway.”
Mullagh Community Development’s plan also includes an off-road carpark to provide a safe venue for parents dropping off children and for older members of the community and a modern playground.
Minister Cannon commended all associated with the project and said it is a great tribute to the vision of the local community.
