Galway County Council has secured €137,000 in funding for minor flood relief works at two locations.

Galway TD Sean Canney said that the county council has been successful in seeking OPW funding for two projects at Clonfert and Craughwell.

The larger project involves €119,327 for works at Clonfert to create a mound and retaining walls at the rear of four properties.

Other work will involve the maintenance of existing culverts and channels, and modifying channels upstream from the new creations.

The other allocation is €18,000 for the installation of a surface water collection system on the R348 at Carrownamorrisey, Holypark, Craughwell.

The project will also involve creating gullies, manholes, and improving the existing culvert.

“I welcome this funding under the Minor Works Flood Mitigation Scheme introduced by the OPW to fund the Local Authorities to carry out these important flood relief projects to protect properties and farmyard.”

Deputy Canney added, “I want to acknowledge the work of the local council engineering staff and the OPW officials who continue to work together to fund and carry out these important works”.
